About RF StateSide, LLC

RF StateSide, LLC is the engineering lab and consultancy of Ray Faucher (KB1SO) — blending decades of RF experience with modern embedded, desktop, and web development.

Ray has more than 25 years of leadership in wireless, RF engineering, construction, and technology delivery. He has held roles such as Vice President of Engineering, Vice President of Technology, and Director of Engineering & Construction, and was co-owner and VP of Technology at Evolution RF.

Over his career he’s led and delivered 10,000+ turnkey projects including DAS, public-safety, Small Cell, Wi-Fi, and enterprise wireless systems.

In addition to RF systems, Ray develops advanced marine electronics including NMEA-2000/NMEA-0183 interfaces, vessel telemetry hardware, and navigation-aware desktop tools. Projects include the RayVessel marine dashboard system and RayNmeaSimulator, a full vessel-data simulation suite used for chartplotter testing and training.

What RF StateSide Focuses On Today

RF & Embedded Controllers

Design and firmware for solid-state HF amplifiers, power-supply controllers, and station peripherals. Work includes Teensy 4.x and ESP32-based control systems, protection logic, telemetry, and integration with tools like RaySspaController, RayCoupler, and RayRailSwSense.

Desktop & Web Software

Cross-platform applications built with Qt / C++ and .NET (Blazor) — such as MercuryLuxPc — providing real-time telemetry, remote control, calibration workflows, and station dashboards for ham operators and RF engineers.

Hardware & Modules

Practical, buildable hardware: HF directional couplers, rig/antenna switching, high-side DC switching and current sensing, and controller-friendly interfaces. Boards are intentionally designed so others can integrate them into their own amplifiers or station controllers.

Marine Electronics

Development of vessel dashboards, navigation systems, and NMEA2000/NMEA0183 tooling. Includes projects like RayVessel (vessel telemetry on Raspberry Pi) and RayNmeaSimulator (full data simulation, autopilot mode, and joystick-based vessel control for chartplotter testing).

Consulting & Reviews

Architecture reviews, “second set of eyes” assessments, and legacy wireless/DAS guidance for teams that need both hands-on RF experience and executive-level perspective on cost, risk, and long-term maintainability.

Roots in In-Building Wireless & DAS

Before launching RF StateSide as a product and engineering brand, Ray spent much of his career in in-building distributed antenna systems (DAS) and wireless infrastructure — designing, deploying, and managing thousands of systems across the U.S. for public safety, cellular, and enterprise coverage.

As a leader and co-owner at firms like Evolution RF, and in VP and Director roles at national integrators, he has been responsible for engineering, construction, managed services, training, and vendor coordination. That real-world, field-tested background heavily influences how RF StateSide approaches new designs today: measurable, serviceable, and built for the long haul.

How RF StateSide Works

  • Practical first – designs that can be built, wired, calibrated, and supported.
  • Open integration – modules and software that play nicely with other vendors.
  • Measured, not guessed – emphasis on calibrated data and repeatable tests.
  • Documentation for real users – examples, usage notes, and clear workflows.

Whether you need a custom amplifier controller, help reviewing an RF design, or guidance on steering a legacy wireless system forward, the goal is always the same: make the engineering clear, reliable, and maintainable.
